Bathroom – tall, slim and compact should be the main characteristics of a storage cabinet that is to be used in the bathroom.  As space is usually limited in the bathroom, the most appropriate cabinets should be the ones built to fit into small places.  Preferably made from plastic due to its waterproof and easy cleaning qualities, most plastic bathroom cabinets are stackable and therefore can be added to or reduced from at any time, allowing increased storage space when necessary.

Bedrooms – not overly popular for the bedroom due to most people having standard wardrobes, chests of drawers and bedside cabinets to store their belongings in, many modern bedroom furniture sets are adding a storage cabinet to their range.  Available in many different sizes, their aim is to store all of the items that do not generally warrant being in a wardrobe or chest of drawers, so hanging rails or small, individual shelves are not included and generally only comprise of either several standard sized drawers, or shelves that fill the whole width of the cabinet.

Kitchens – within kitchens in older homes, a lot of people have a larder to store any non-fresh food items.  As a lot of modern houses do not have these facilities but are required, spacious, larder-like storage cabinets are regularly being purchased.  Tall – often to the ceiling – and wide, they are designed to fit in with most standard kitchen designs and offer a fantastic place to store a variety of different items, both food and utensils alike.

Attics – the attic, in any home, can often be one of the most unused spaces in the whole house and any items placed in the attic can soon take up a vast amount of space if not stored correctly.  Low level storage is generally the most practical and widely available, whilst for storing clothes – to avoid becoming dusty or moth ridden – sealed storage cabinets are available, with individual sealed drawers inside.

Garage – once only available in professional garages, the prominent red storage cabinets that are widely liked are now available to all of the general public.   With dozens of different drawers and cupboards for many different tools and accessories, they make for a great piece of furniture to ensure a fantastic clutter free garage.

As most garages are still used for their primary purpose of securely storing a vehicle, there is several garage storage units that are suitable for housing a variety of items related to a garage of this type.  For example, once only available in a professional mechanic’s garage, there are some fantastic high-end specification cabinets freely available to all.  These cabinets – popularized by their stunning red coloring – are full of drawers for tools, storage cupboards for oils and cleaning products and internal shelves for storing general accessories.  With several different styles available, from floor based to wall hung, they after considered the Swiss Army Knife of garage storage units and are favored by many.

A large amount of people are using their garage as an area to store their garden equipment, freeing up more space in the garden itself.  These storage cabinets are generally very large in size, with some spacious enough to walk inside of – even when full of equipment.  The aim of these cabinets is to have a place for everything and therefore there are large quantities of hooks and clips on the side panels so tools, for example spades and forks, can be hooked or clipped onto the walls, freeing up the floor space.  Whilst they do not generally contain many shelves, there are copious amounts of drawers and cupboards for the storage of smaller gardening items, such as gloves or hand trowels.

In the modern day financial climate, rather than move, more and more people are looking at expanding their house and the garage is often seen as a fantastic area to do so.  A large, spacious and waterproof room, with a few adjustments it can be transformed into a fantastic home office.  In this respect, there is a considerable amount of garage storage options available.  Starting with small, paper storage units to medium filing cabinets and large, industrial sized free-standing floor units, many garage and office suppliers offer a range of these specific storage facilities.  Furthermore, one of the main qualities available for these is the protection they can offer to important documents – many home office garage storage cupboards can be fire proof, theft proof and in some high-end cases, bomb proof.

Where space is at a premium, a storage unit similar in size and style to a traditional larder is often favored.  Once prominent in most kitchens around the world, larders offer a fantastic space to store a variety of goods, most commonly vegetables and tinned food items.  These modern, larder-like storage units aim to replicate the previous qualities of the more traditional larders, containing no drawers or cupboards but are lined with many shelves.

Of course, for many, a space large enough in the kitchen to house a larder-style cupboard is a rarity and therefore smaller storage facilities are often sought after.  One of the more popular storage units for a smaller space is the butcher’s trolley unit.  These units, based on four wheels, can be moved around the kitchen if need be, or situated in one place in a stationary position.  They have a plain work surface on the top, providing more space for preparing meals and two cupboards on either side for a variety of items, such as placemats or cutlery. Furthermore, there are generally two shelves underneath, often with a small edging, that allow for many different items to be situated in them without risk of them falling out.

Whilst not overly aesthetically pleasing, plastic storage cabinets are a popular choice in many homes.  Extremely cheap to purchase and manufactured in dozens of different styles, one of the most common is the three drawer type.  Each drawer has an open, crossed bottom panel that allows for the best air circulation, meaning that any fresh fruit or vegetables placed in the drawer will generally last longer and be fresher for a greater period of time.

Where floor space is minimal, many people often choose to purchase wall-fixed storage facilities.  The main benefit of these cabinets is that they do not require any floor space and have interchangeable fronts, meaning a similar door to the rest of the kitchen can be purchased and easily installed.  Although these cabinets do not have any drawers, they have often have two or three separate shelves and whilst they may seem small, can accommodate several different types of kitchen accessories, from utensils and pots to food items, making them extremely versatile cabinets.

Available in many different materials, the choice depends upon the individual person’s requirements and preferences.  Wicker is a popular choice due to its classy yet slightly bohemian look and although metal cabinets are available, they are not massively favorable due to their proneness to rusting.  Plastic storage cabinets are without doubt the most practical, as they can be washed down easily and are not affected by water that is spilt or splashed upon them.

Many bathroom storage units are sold as a stackable storage facility.  These are ideal for people with limited space as more sections can be added if need be, or conversely can reduce the amount of sections to free up more open space in the bathroom.

The great point about storage cabinets for bathrooms is that most have individual drawers, allowing everyone in the family to have their own drawer which they can be responsible for.  These types of cabinets ensure that a bathroom remains as clutter-free as possible.

There are various different styles and designs of storage cabinets available for the bathroom, although tall and slim cabinets are usually the most appropriate.  The majority of standard bathrooms are similar to a lot of cities – floor space is minimal, but height space is plentiful.  Therefore tall cabinets are great and if they are slim, they take up even less of the space in the bathroom.  Wide cabinets may accommodate more items, but will take up a greater amount of space and can clutter a bathroom.

If space in the bathroom is at a complete minimum, there are two storage options available.  The first is to purchase and install a storage cabinet onto one of the bathroom walls.  These are very popular as they require no floor space and are available in a large variety of designs, fitting in with all types of bathroom suites.  The second option is to transform an item in the bathroom already into a type of storage unit.  It is possible to carry out this process with many different items, but the most popular is turning an old or unused airing cupboard into an effective storage unit that can accommodate massive amounts of items.  Although they may seem small as an actual airing cupboard, when renovated, they can house a variety of shelves and cupboards, making them extremely useful, especially in smaller bathrooms.
